DOC Desk
A friend of mine reached out asking for a gift for his father who recently retired. We originally talked about a sign, but, switched gears to a desk. I used sketchup to design this, it made visualizing and building soooo much easier.
The pic is the first design that I came up with, we ended up removing the upper shelf.
I will be putting together a build video along with plans for anyone who might want to make this!

similar design with shelf on side

one of the legs, the 4x4 I was using decided to split all the way down

i wanted to hide the end of the 2x4 on the legs

dowels blew this side apart coming through

some starbond and clamps you wouldn't know

hey, nice legs

test fit to see how it looks

seeing how a chamfered edge would look

cutting all the dominos for the edge banding

adding the edge banding to the bottom shelf

adding lights and a power strip

router template done for front left

another dry fit

epoxy poured, outlet mounted

I painted the bottom with "Arabian Night" by The Real Milk Paint Company

gotta add a branding iron touch

I really liked the contrast of the raw wood, kind of wish I did something similar with the back of the shelves

front view after painting

this was a huge pain to paint, I ended up getting some clear gorilla tape and cutout the letters

so much poly

power outlet

desk delivered and Doc could not have been happier
Here’s a quick video of routing out the DOC letters.
This is a letter template kit sold by Rockler, this is their “State Park Font”
